Packet Course: Medical First Aid, Advanced Firefighting, and Proficiency in Rescue Boat at Gulf Stream Superyacht Academy

Course Overview: The Packet Course at Gulf Stream Superyacht Academy is an all-encompassing training program designed for maritime professionals seeking to enhance their skills in three critical areas: Medical First Aid, Advanced Firefighting, and Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat other than Fast Rescue Boat. This course combines comprehensive theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on training to ensure participants are prepared for emergency situations at sea.

Course Duration: This intensive course is conducted over a two weeks period, with classes scheduled Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM. Additional evening and weekend sessions are included for practical exercises and assessments.

Curriculum:

1. Medical First Aid:

   • Basic Life Support (BLS):
     • CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants.
     • Use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
   • Trauma Management:
     • Handling fractures, burns, and wounds.
     • Spinal injury stabilization.
   • Medical Emergencies:
     • Managing cardiac, respiratory, and diabetic emergencies.
     • Recognizing and treating allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.
   • Onboard Medical Care:
     • Use of onboard medical equipment and supplies.
     • Communication with remote medical support.

2. Advanced Firefighting:

   • Fire Science:
     • Understanding the chemistry and behavior of fire.
     • Types and classification of fires.
   • Fire Prevention:
     • Identifying fire hazards and implementing safety measures.
     • Maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems.
   • Firefighting Techniques:
     • Use of firefighting equipment, including extinguishers, hoses, and breathing apparatus.
     • Firefighting strategies and tactics for different types of fires.
   • Emergency Response:
     • Coordinating firefighting efforts with the crew.
     • Conducting fire drills and emergency evacuations.

3. Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat other than Fast Rescue Boat:

   • Rescue Boat Operations:
     • Launching and recovering rescue boats.
     • Handling and maneuvering rescue boats in various conditions.
   • Search and Rescue (SAR):
     • Conducting search patterns and rescue operations.
     • Effective communication and coordination during SAR missions.
   • Survival Techniques:
     • Use of survival equipment, including life rafts and personal flotation devices (PFDs).
     • Techniques for aiding individuals in distress.
   • Rescue and Recovery:
     • Recovering casualties from the water.
     • Administering first aid and stabilizing rescued individuals.

Practical Training: Participants will engage in realistic scenario-based exercises, including live fire drills, medical emergency simulations, and rescue boat operations in various maritime conditions. Training takes place both in the academy’s state-of-the-art facilities and on the water, using fully equipped rescue boats.

Certifications: Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive certifications in Medical First Aid, Advanced Firefighting, and Proficiency in Rescue Boat, recognized by international maritime authorities and compliant with STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping) requirements.
